The Broad Institute
When a newly formed genomics research institute needed an innovative architectural solution for its headquarters, it called on Red Thread. The Broad Institute, a collaborative effort of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and the Whitehead Institute, was under pressure to quickly complete its new facilities. Red Thread introduced the organization to the Steelcase Pathways® Privacy Wall, a high-performance, moveable–yet elegant--wall. Replacing traditional, time-consuming drywall construction for interior spaces, the Pathways walls were quickly installed throughout the organization’s seven floors, helping the institute meet its tight move-in date. While Pathways was essential to keeping the schedule on track, it also met several other key project requirements. MBDC Silver Cradle to CradleCM Certified, Pathways aligned with the institute’s green building goals by reducing construction waste, enabling reuse of materials, supporting recycling and more. At the same time, Pathways also delivered critical flexibility to the new organization by significantly streamlining the process and reducing costs associated with moving walls to reconfigure the interior space. In addition to installing and project managing the wall solution, Red Thread also provided more than 450 Steelcase Think® chairs for institute’s offices and labs. Widely praised for its comfort, usability and sophisticated design, Think is also recognized as a forerunner in environmental design, further supporting the institute’s commitment to an environmentally friendly headquarters. |
